As the conversion to digital TV broadcasts will be on you
America's transition from analog to digital television will be nearing completion. A decade of government mandate requires that all full-power stop TV stations broadcasting analog signals and switch to 100% digital broadcasting. Compared to analog, digital broadcasts a sharper picture and more programming options - but you need the right equipment to monitor.

Who is affected?
The digital transition is primarily due to the 15-20 million TV viewers, based on the local over-the-air broadcasts received via antenna. If you have an old TV to an antenna and you will still receive analog broadcasts, you should contact your local stations to find if they are planning to convert digital broadcasts. After the transition, all the old TV (with an analog tuner only) must be equipped with a digital-analog converter box or through a new TV with built-in digital tuner in order to enjoy over-the-air broadcasts. Cable and satellite TV subscribers should be no interruption in service.

Digital converter boxes
You need a converter box for each old (analog) TV, connected to an antenna. Converter boxes sell for $ 40 - $ 80 you can reduce costs substantially by the Government of the voucher program.

How can I register for the $ 40 government converter box coupons?
You can register for up to two $ 40 coupons per household. The government has launched a website that allows you for the coupons. You can also via telephone by calling 1-888-DTV-2009. The coupons expire after 90 days.
Unfortunately, Crutchfield does not sell DTV converter and the government can not redeem coupons. But we have some tips to make it so you have the right converter box for your needs, as well as some notes and graphics that you close it.

What should I use for a DTV converter?
Most shops offer only one or two models. But if you have the choice between the fields, here are some things you might want to look for:

Analog Pass-Through --
For channels of analog and digital TV channels, you need a converter box with the analog signal to pass to the TV. This feature is in practically before the analog broadcasting cut-off date (and beyond that the deadline for people who may be smaller, local low-power stations that are not switching to digital).
